What is HappySneeze?
HappySneeze is a digital, first-line intervention providing education, guidance, and support that can help reduce Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) in women. It is delivered via a friendly mobile app and it counts on continuous support from a Nurse via chat or email.
Why HappySneeze?
Physical Therapy (PT) is the Standard of Care for Stress Urinary Incontinence. However, most people do not have access to PT because of a number of reasons, among them:
-
Lack of awareness
-
Specialist shortages, resulting in long wait times to get a visit
-
Distance to see a specialist and/or lack of transportation
-
Unaffordability of copays
-
Under or no insurance coverage
-
And in general, an appointment-based model that is hard for parents of babies and young children to adhere to and complete
As a result, most people, especially in BIPOC and Rural communities, will not get timely care. Currently, 1 in 2 women has urinary incontinence, and 1 in 5 will have incontinence surgery in their lifetime.
What makes HappySneeze effective?
Adherence to treatment is the strongest predictor of efficacy in Pelvic Floor rehabilitation. Our model uses three strategies to maximize adherence:
-
Provider-prescribed: treatment initiation rates after screening are 5X higher for provider-referred users than for users arriving from online searches or social media.
-
Functional approach: in the HappySneeze program, rehabilitation exercises are integrated into everyday activities that we call Happy Habits, such as lifting children, toileting, and sitting o standing. This promotes regular practice vs. isolated exercises, fitness-oriented programs, or devices such as vaginal probes, biofeedback or TENS.
-
Support from a Nurse: who tracks attendance, prevents disengagement, and provides compassionate support to users.
How effective is HappySneeze?
The program has been tested with 140+ users and growing. These are the key metrics:
-
56% of users complete the 40-days of the Rehabilitation program
-
5.5 points reduction in the ICIQ-SF index, considered clinically significant
-
60% of users “get to dry”, achieving an ICIQ-SF score < than 3 points
-
96% of users who complete the program report an improvement in their Quality of Life
